My name is Christa Sperry and I am Cardio Pulmonary Practioner at UCSD Medical center. I work in their Neonatal ICU taking care of premature, and sick newborns. I am also newly a mother myself. We often have babies who need to stay with us for long periods of time and while no baby is the same, many of them have very sensitive skin or have various allergies due to being born premature. Moms are always asking what they can do for their sensitive little ones and among other things I recommend cloth diapering. I always seem to get the same overwhelmed response from moms, they don’t know what brands to buy, do you get pre fold or AIO, or all in two, or snap or velcro, one size fits all? What’s a PUL? Cotton, fleece, microfiber,bamboo? Their questions led me to do some research of my own, and in deed it is quite overwhelming. The last thing a mom who is about to take her baby home for the first time in 5 months needs is to be overwhelmed, so my goal is to simplify the cloth diapering world for them and put together a handout to be given to moms before they take their babies home. I will review about five diaper brands/styles and highlight what I’ve learned from using them and outline what I liked about them, the fit, fabric, type of diaper and type of closure. I will include how to use them and wash them. The sole purpose of this is to help these moms of little ones who have already overcome so much just to stay alive, please join me in making a difference for them. I am asking that you help me by sending me a sample of your cloth diaper /cover/insert for me to use on my son (5 1/2 months 18 lbs.) and review for the moms of NICU babies. Once the project is complete the diapers will be brought in and made available for the moms to see and get a feel for before they order them.
